Vodacom empowers thousands of girls with digital skills through #CodeLikeAGirl

   Since 2017, the Vodacom #CodeLikeAGirl initiative has gained immense popularity, inspiring young girls to venture into the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). More than 6 300 girls have benefitted from the programme to date, which teaches coding among other technology and life skills. Critically, by the end of the current financial year, the programme will have reached in excess of 10 000 underprivileged girls. The #CodeLikeAGirl initiative contributes to building a more digital, inclusive, sustainable future on the continent while tackling low representation of women in STEM education through a structured educational programme that targets underprivileged girls. Vodacom invests over R400 million to improve network connectivity in Free State and Northern Cape

Vodacom Central Region, encompassing Free State and Northern Cape,  is investing over R400 million this financial year into the region’s network to increase capacity and resilience and accelerate access to connectivity throughout the province, particularly in deep rural areas. The region spent half a billion rands during the 2023/24 financial year and R340 million in 2022/23 on expanding broadband coverage across the region. Vodacom deploys world 1st mobile radio equipment to bolster network resilience in Egypt.

Vodacom Group announced the successful deployment of a world 1st triple-band Mobile Radio Unit that combines the 1800MHz, 2100 FDD and 2600 TDD frequency bands into one single Radio Unit. This advanced Radio Unit from Ericsson will enable Vodafone Egypt to reduce the cost of its 4G/5G network rollout in the country, the implementation time, energy consumption and tower load. Vodacom, which acquired a 55% stake in Vodafone Egypt in 2022, invested R4.6 billion in its last financial year on growing and strengthening the network in Egypt to support increased demand. “I am proud of the innovative work done by the team in Vodafone Egypt in driving Vodacom Group’s vision to build networks that are future-proofed, efficient and customer focused.
