Lessons from Future Forum 2023: imaging and printing trends to watch

Canon, the world's premier imaging brand, sparked imagination and laid out new routes to innovation at Canon Future Forum 2023, which took place in Istanbul on 5 and 6 July.
108 delegates from across the world attended the forum, with over half from EMEA regions. This dynamic gathering of thought leaders and trendsetters represented the entire spectrum of the imaging and production printing value chain. The forum revealed a future where technology merges seamlessly with creativity, leading to transformative impacts on individuals and businesses alike.

Digital trends and challenges

Central to this year's discussion was the burgeoning potential of digital printing. Canon challenged traditional norms, inviting industry leaders and partners to envision a future where print-on-demand models, driven by digital printing, are not just feasible but standard – a future where quantity is dethroned, replaced by personalised, timely, and cost-effective solutions.

When it comes to artificial intelligence (AI), Canon depicted a vivid vision of a not-too-distant future, where AI supercharges scanning technology, improving accuracy and liberating businesses from manual processes.

Alongside celebrating the digital revolution, Canon focused on the challenges accompanying digital innovation. The forum focused on the complexities of digital security, prompting engaging discussions about safeguarding digital assets and preserving data integrity in an era where information is invaluable.

Canon shared its vision of a future where customisation is key. As market needs evolve and personalisation becomes more than just a catchphrase, Canon's commitment to crafting tailored solutions for individual needs took the limelight.

Sustainability affects everything

Sustainability, an integral ethos for Canon, touched every aspect of the forum. Energy-efficient technology is a priority for Canon. Keypoint Intelligence, an independent market research firm, ranks Canon’s A4 printing devices as the top choice for energy efficiency. The Buyers Lab (BLI) 2023-2025 Most Energy Efficient Laser A4 Brand Award positions Canon firmly at the forefront of eco-conscious technological innovation.

This is especially relevant to the South African imaging market, where an uptick in production and activity has been observed. Amidst loadshedding conditions, the drive to invest in energy-efficient machines that can run on alternate energy solutions has become a critical discussion point. Though this transition needs investment from local companies, firms that use the latest imaging technology stand to benefit from decreased costs and smarter, more efficient printing.

Canon is committed to green manufacturing and sustainable product lifecycle management. This resonates with the evolving dynamics in South Africa, where the convergence of sustainability, digital innovation, and robust investment is moulding the future of the imaging market.

The future of imaging

Tunca Rodoplu, Senior Marketing Manager B2B at Canon South Africa, explains: "Canon Future Forum 2023 energised our partners and stimulated a lively conversation about the future of our industry. We're proud to lead the digital revolution, showcasing how our innovative technology and commitment to sustainability can drive our partners towards unprecedented growth."

The forum offered attending Canon's partners an opportunity to engage in open dialogue with Canon executives, reaffirming the company's position as a trusted, approachable ally on their journey towards success.
